Configura just released Virtual Reality for CET Designer (VR) at the recently concluded NeoCon World’s Trade Fair in Chicago. This really cool solution helps designers and salespeople to really show their customers their planned space.

So how does this intuitive technology work? Quite simply, the designer designs a space filled with products like office furniture, walls, etc. using CET Designer. VR, combined with Oculus Rift glasses worn by the user, then helps them see and experience the designed space.

This may sound rather sci-fi but apparently one can even walk around inside the space. Yes, you can look around the room by simply moving your head to “look” in different directions, while “walking” is handled with remote control or joystick.

The technology currently works with Oculus Rift glasses, but the company hopes to add more brands to the roster as and when they become available. It is also the first immersive, industry-wide VR solution on the market that supports multiple manufacturers’ products and then allows the furniture buyer to virtually walk through their space before making any purchase decisions.

Configura is renowned for creating space-planning software, including CET Designer®, software that simplifies the sales and ordering process for manufacturers, dealers and designers in the contract furniture, kitchen and bath, material handling, industrial machinery, and laboratory and healthcare industries.

“Virtual Reality for CET Designer is for anyone who designs interior spaces and specifies products that go in the designed space,” Configura Business Development Manager Brooke Snow said. “With this technology, they can create incredible options for customers, and their customers can experience their planned space before they even buy the furnishings. The technology is amazing for truly demonstrating proof of concept and for decision-making.”
