Susie Fishleder is a Workplace Consultant at Atmosphere Commercial Interiors based in Phoenix, AZ. Susie holds a BS in Interior Design from Arizona State University. (Go Devils!)
I have been with ACI since December of 2014. I’m a working mom of three kids, and I love coming to work because in the office no one yells at me for more juice. My background is in interior design, so I’m thrilled to have found a career in commercial furniture. I love helping clients create efficient, cost effective and enjoyable environments for their workplace. I aim to be a trusted consultant in each interaction and love to explore new and innovative products to introduce to my clients.
Q. What was your first job?
A. I was the clerk at “Candy, Candy,” the candy store in the mall. It was there that I fully explored the depths of my sweet tooth.
Q. What was your best job?
A. Teaching yoga! I still teach one class a week but there was a time I was teaching 12 classes weekly plus several private sessions. Talk about a fulfilling job; I truly felt like I was making a tangible difference in people’s lives. I specialize in prenatal and baby yoga, and am also a certified instructor of infant massage so I got to spend my time surrounded by chubby babies!
Q. In addition to being paid money, how else has your career created value in your life?
A. I feel like I have found the perfect job for “work/life” balance. I am able to be there for my kids’ important milestones and balance that by working at my dining table a lot. My job allows me to have the creative license I enjoyed from being an interior designer, with the thrill of the “win” I get when we land a big project. Also, I love that I get to work in the same industry as many of my friends from college. There’s a core group of us from ASU that still meets monthly for happy hour or lunch.
Q. What is your most memorable travel experience?
A. I spent three weeks in Europe (Barcelona and Paris) with the ASU School of Design. First and only time I traveled by train. It was an amazing trip full of architecture, art, design and lots of late evenings drinking wine and laughing with other design students. It was incredible just wandering these old cities with centuries of history.
Q. What do you like to do in your spare time?
A. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I’m a working mom of three kids, I don’t HAVE any spare time!! But if I did, I’d love to do more yoga. I’m a certified yoga instructor but I almost never get to take a class anymore.
Q. What lessons has your work life taught you?
A. Everything will get done. It might not be pretty, it might not be fun, and you might have no idea how it’s going to happen, but every project eventually completes.
Q. Do you have any favorite stories from your work life?
A. The words “Punch complete. No issues.” Just kidding. Actually, I love walking through a space right after install, when everything is new and shiny and thinking “I helped build this. I helped create this,” and knowing that people will sit in this furniture every day and interact with it and hopefully love it!
