Target Field is not only the Major Leagues’ newest ballpark, it has now been declared the greenest. The U.S Green Building Council has awarded Target Field LEED® Silver Certification. LEED stands for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” and is an internationally recognized green certification program. Dave St. Peter (President – Minnesota Twins) said Target Field is ranked two points higher than the Washington National’s ballpark, making it the “greenest” ballpark in America!
Target Commercial Interiors is proud to have done our part in the awarding of Target Field a LEED® Silver Certification. Throughout the furnishings selection process, products were assessed not only for their adherence to design intent, but their role in meeting the sustainability goals of the project.
Documentation for every product was required – How much recycled content is used in the product? And what is it’s recyclability?
Steelcase workstation and seating products in all office areas are either gold or silver level Cradle-to-Cradle certified. And at our suggestion, a bar stool was sourced from a local Minnesota manufacturer as an alternate to the one originally specified. Its metal components are 90% recycled automobile steel, and wood is sourced from sustainably managed forests. It is used in the suites and food service locations throughout the ballpark, and it only had to travel from Burnsville, MN to Target Field, a huge savings in fuel and emissions. And at the end of its useful life, it is 100% recyclable.
The Chamber is proud to be holding its 2nd Annual Greening Your Business Expo presented by Xcel Energy on Tuesday, April 27th from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Target Field. There will be more than 50 exhibitors showcasing green products and services for the workplace.
“Many of the same green design elements in Target Field can be scaled to smaller commercial office buildings,” said Todd Klingel, President & CEO of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce. “Exhibitors at this expo will help employers discover energy efficient products, green office supplies, water reduction devises, waste management services and transit options for their business.”
The Chamber encourages all businesses to look at incorporating sustainable products and services in their workplace and hopes this venue and forum will aid in that effort.
The Chamber would like to thank the sponsors of the Greening Your Business Expo:
